Time to rest and family

So Part of our purpose is to reconnect with family far away after a long time apart due to the pandemic.  (Yayy for vaccination!)  Not all of these times are quite what I aim to blog about even though they matter.  The next few posts will be a tad shorter as I focus this blog on the geology, which we cover less of on a given day than we did on the road.  I am also hoping this allows me to catchup a bit on the lag in posts.

Day 8: Billings MT to Dickenson ND

Course Correction As has been hinted in previous 2 posts.  Several days of non-stop geologic wonder has taken their toll on our well being, on our clothing, on our ice chest.  In Billings we had made reservations at what ended up being an incredibly well run hotel with a fantastic hot breakfast included in the price, blazing fast internet, and . . . a laundry room.   I would describe this all in better detail, but a travel blog is not best place for couples to air out their dirty laundry.   Whole justification for this trip is to make my classes work better.  I am not necessarily living up to that end.  So we abandon Turtle Mountain and the 49th parallel and the confluence of the Yellowstone + Missouri rivers and make reservations for Dickinson ND.  I'll still get my ND fix just not as thoroughly. Day 6: Boise to Island Park

Life comes at you fast 2 days after the fact I have barely even begun to process all that we saw in our "5 hour drive" across the bottom part of Idaho.  I want to keep this Blog as current as possible, but this has simply not been practical.   We are slowing down the trip and modifying the route as continuing at our current paste will lead to increasing numbers of cascading failures. -- Written from a nice hotel room in Billings MT  Rainy Day In Boise We were up late and the Bed n Breakfast was really nice.  The commons had a good spot for me to camp out and type my blog.  Other guests would drift by.  The rain kept falling in a relaxing pattern on our roof.  Also noted the beautiful flow banding present in the "Leathered granite" on the lounge countertops.  Most suppliers of designer countertops are hesitant to reveal their sources and / or explain how / where the rock was quarried.  Even the nomenclature for countertop stone is often w...
